An Ode to Those on the Journey of Feathering Their Own Nest
Through professionally supporting others, one thing I know for sure is we are all so much more alike than we are different.
Just to let you know
I know the kind acts you do when no one is watching.
I know the feeling of insecurity that grips you.
The critical way you look at yourself, but never look at others with the same disdain.
I know you struggle, worry and fret, about things you cannot change and evade the things you can.
I know you have been hurt.
I know you have felt unappreciated by others.
I know you have wasted time seeking approval from those who can’t give it.
I know you have felt despair and denied it to others.
I know you have sought comfort in things that can’t nourish you.
I know you don’t honour and cherish yourself like you do others.
I know you have felt uncomfortable in your clothes, unwilling to accept your form.
I know you have felt more isolated with others than by yourself.
I know you have wept in the darkness, unable to admit defeat.
I know you have judged yourself harshly against the imaginary standards of others.
I know you worry about your sense of security, financial and otherwise.
I know you have loved others more than yourself.
I know you have felt incapable of constructing a future.
I know you’ve made mistakes.
I know you have regrets about the places you haven’t seen and the things you haven’t done.
I know the circumstances have long since passed that hurt you, but the pain still remains.
I know you are trying to find your place in the world.
I know you are frustrated when you see others doing what you aspire to do.
I know you resist doing things that you think you have long since forgotten, but would make you happier.
I know you have a favourite song that you rarely listen to.
I know you want to rekindle friendships that you have let dissolve.
I know you yearn to take steps towards living the life that calls to you in the darkness of the night.
I know others rejection of you has troubled you profoundly.
I know you wish to stop trying to be all things to all people.
I know you want to give yourself permission to fail and not apologise for it.
I know you have unique talents and insights that no one else has.
I know you can surround yourself with people that nourish you and limit the contact with those that don’t.
I know you can let go of things that no longer serve you.
I know you can say only things about yourself that are loving.
I know you can accept what has befallen you.
I know you can let go of beliefs that were never yours.
I know you can make better choices.
I know you can be all you envision and more.
I know you can forgive yourself.
I know you are ready
I know you are strong enough.
I know you are enough.
